Non-Scalpel Vasectomy

In conjunction with South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group Matrix Health Services UK Ltd delivers prompt and effective treatment for patients who request male sterilisation

Prior to the procedure the surgeon will inject a local anaesthetic to numb the area before the skin is punctured.

Although the anaesthetic quickly takes effect the act of picking up the tubes can cause some degree of discomfort and you may feel slightly sick, sweaty or light-headed.

At the end of the procedure the small puncture wound will be covered with a dressing.

The local anaesthetic will wear off after a couple of hours and the area may ache for 24-72 hours; this can be relieved by taking Aspirin or Paracetamol.

It is essential that you have someone with you to drive you home after the procedure.

Following your procedure your GP will be sent a summary of your treatment. It is important that you rest and take things easy for 48 hours following the vasectomy procedure.

You will be issued with a post-operative instruction sheet including contact numbers on discharge but you should seek advice from a healthcare professional as soon as possible if you develop any of the symptoms listed below:-

  • A temperature
  • Increased redness
  • Throbbing or drainage at the site of the operation

An alternative form of contraception MUST be used until you have received confirmation from Matrix Health Services UK Ltd that your post-operative semen test is clear of sperm.
